Sue Cottrell

Sue is an independent education consultant with a wealth of curriculum development, assessment, learning and teaching expertise.  She began her career teaching music and drama in three secondary schools, then quickly progressed to working at a national level with the Curriculum Council for Wales; the Curriculum, Assessment and Qualifications Authority for Wales; and Welsh Government, with responsibility for music and performing arts 3 to 19. A keen collaborator, her research on Partnerships in the Classroom was published in the British Journal of Music Education. After leaving Welsh Government in 2012, Sue worked for the Council for British Teachers as a Literacy and Numeracy Partner on the National Support Programme in Wales, and as a consultant with Qualifications Wales and Ofqual. At the time of writing, she is advising iChild and the Office for National Statistics on classroom materials for Census 2021.

Sue has a strong background in training and resource development, and has delivered a wealth of training for teachers and local authorities on literacy, teaching and learning in the expressive arts. Creative, versatile and always on the look out for a new challenge, Sue is an active musician with personal interests in stammering, eating disorders and managing personal change.  Her publications include Can I tell you about Stammering? and Can I tell you about Stuttering? for Jessica Kingsley Publishers, and several series of schools content for the BBC.
