James Snook

James is an education practitioner, academic and educational mentor.  His experience and research relate to the professional learning of teachers, supporting practice and academic development focused on teacher inquiry. He mentors and coaches teachers to increase their capacity to develop local knowledge around their practice. This best supports an advancement in learning and teaching for their local school contexts. James’ research interests include the professional learning of teachers, action research and mentoring, and academic practice. He has published a number of journal articles in this field. His doctoral research related to developing teacher identity as a form of professional learning for beginning teachers, through teacher inquiry.  James’ wider interest include science, technology, engineering and medical education in which he originally qualified.

James is adept at working across multiple disciplines and educational phases.  He has worked at Cardiff University within PGCE (post compulsory education and training), Master’s in Educational Practice and wider educational programmes. Also, he supports the delivery of PGCE in Secondary Science and Teach first Wales programmes at Cardiff Metropolitan University. James is a qualified and Chartered Science teacher with specialisms in Chemistry and Physics. James developed his teaching practice at a city secondary school.
