Janet Bond

A National Support Programme consultant from May 2014 to July 2015, Jan partnered over 40 schools altogether in implementing the Literacy and Numeracy Framework in Wales. She supported primary and secondary senior leaders through their self-evaluation and strategic planning processes. She provided extensive bespoke specialist support to primary and secondary schools in planning and assessing the LNF across the curriculum. She also led exemplification and assessment for learning workshops across the Consortia and took the lead in developing and delivering the Geography Y9 to GCSE Numeracy Workshop.

An experienced Secondary Geography Teacher (11-18) of 26 years until 2008, including Head of Department and whole school Pupil Target Setting and Monitoring Co-ordinator, Jan has extensive experience of specification development, delivering inset and external examining (WJEC), and was the Chief Moderator for KS3 Geography from 2005-2008.

Between 2008 and 2012, Jan worked as the External Subject Expert for Geography (3-19) at the Department of Education advising the Welsh Government on curriculum, assessment and commissioning educational resources giving her a wealth and breadth of educational experience. Jan participated in the Welsh Government 'Developing thinking and assessment for learning' project and 'Developing PISA support materials' and their dissemination to L.A. advisers and teachers across Wales. She also contributed to the 'Higher Order Literacy across the curriculum' guidance.

Her particular interests are to support teachers in identifying opportunities to use Geography as a stimulating learning context for 'skill development and progression', in particular Literacy and Numeracy, delivering INSET to groups of teachers, individual schools and L.A.s to help improve learning outcomes.

Jan is an Ofqual Consultant reviewing qualifications and scrutinising Awarding Bodies and accredits and also scrutinises the procedures of the Awarding Body in Wales. She is a consultant with the Geographical Association. She continues to commission and monitor the production of bilingual original Geography and Leisure and Tourism Resources for learners in Wales. She has worked for BBC Wales to develop and review educational resources.
