Alan taught in secondary schools for 18 years. He moved to Wales in summer 2017 to be with his partner so that they could start a family.
As a Headteacher, Alan led his school through rapid change. He and his team closed the gap for disadvantaged students in all subjects, recruited a full complement of permanent subject specialist teachers and increased pupil numbers so that the school is now oversubscribed. This work was recognised by inspectors, who gave the school the highest grades in all categories, finding that: leadership and management were outstanding; staff morale was high; disadvantaged students did exceptionally well; teaching was highly effective; and, students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development were excellent.
Alan has led classroom, faculty and whole school work on improving pupils’ social and cultural capital, critical thinking, improving literacy, personal development and global citizenship.
Alan has significant experience of coaching and mentoring at all levels, from support staff to novice teachers to senior leaders.
